2016 Hangtown Music Festival
10.17.16 – As recently announced, bassist Chris Wood underwent emergency surgery last week. While we’re happy to report that his healing process is going even better than expected, he unfortunately won’t be able to perform with his bands, Medeski Martin & Wood and The Wood Brothers, this weekend at Hangtown. The festival will, however, be featuring one-of-a-kind ensembles in place of those previously scheduled sets. Kirk Joseph of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band (tuba) and Will Bernard (guitar) will join John Medeski and Billy Martin to form Medeski Martin & Mad Skillet. The group, which is a hybrid of John Medeski’s Mad Skillet and Medeski Martin & Wood, will perform a dynamic mix of MMW tunes and hard-hitting grooves. Additionally, Oliver Wood & Jano Rix of the Wood Brothers will be joined by Ric Robertson from The Rondo Rigs on bass to present a mix of Wood Brothers’ favorites and well known classics with several guests including Nicki Bluhm, Joe Craven, Tim Carbone of Railroad Earth and members of The Infamous Stringdusters, billed as Oliver Wood w/Jano Rix & the Hangtown Allstars.
